SUMMARY:Classical Café: The End Times
DESCRIPTION:Can a musical blackboard prevent the Apocalypse? \nCome and find out in Liza Bec’s original coming-of-age tale featuring the modular synth of chalk. Listen as haunting vocals\, surreal spoken word and soaring winds swoop over driving synths and polyrhythms. Watch as chalk\, tape and water are transformed into a theatrical soundscape with one foot in the supernatural and one foot in science. \nLiza will use their self-built cyborg recorder\, the roborecorder\, as featured in New Scientist\, Insider and the Museum of Science and Industry\, to control the sounds made by the blackboard from afar. \nThis immersive hour-long live theatrical performance includes music from ‘The End Times’ album\, recorded live at Real World Studios. Featuring choreography by Becky Namgauds and narrated by David Ryder Prangley (Rachel Stamp\, Adam Ant) \nLiza is an innovative contemporary performer\, composer\, producer and multimedia narrative author. They built the roborecorder based on their lived experience of music-triggered epilepsy. They were awarded the Fusion Fund by Help Musicians UK to create audiovisual EP INNERVATE. In 2024 they held residencies at Britten Pears Arts and Paraorchestra. They produce serial fiction podcast Spiral Dial. \nAbout Classical Café\nClassical Café is a series of Sunday afternoon performances at Middlesbrough Town Hall. Listen to classical music in a more informal and relaxed atmosphere\, enjoying coffee and cake while you listen! \nTickets: £6\, free for under 16s. Doors open 2pm for refreshments. \nA free\, electronic music making workshop (aimed at ages 11-18) is also running on Monday 9th June\, 4.30pm-6pm. \nSupported by the National Lottery and Arts Council England.
