With roots in Western classical and contemporary music\, Akash brings a fresh\, innovative voice to the instrument\, blending tradition with modern musical sensibilities. \nA dedicated disciple of renowned sitarist Roopa Panesar\, Akash has also been guided by esteemed musicians including Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE\, Ustad Harjinderpal Singh (disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma)\, and Ustad Irshad Khan (disciple and son of Ustad Imrat Khan\, and nephew of Ustad Vilayat Khan). \nHis collaborative work spans a wide creative spectrum\, featuring projects with Zak Starkey (The Who\, Oasis)\, Mayur Navekar (Bandish Projekt)\, and Michael Tedstone (ManikeMusic)\, among others. SUMMARY:Classical Café: Alison Gill
DESCRIPTION:Alison Gill presents Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’. \nBe inspired by a gallery of musical pictures! Today’s recital will celebrate Mussorgsky’s colourful piano work ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’\, inspired by a visit to an art gallery. The 10 paintings we will reflect on will cover everything from the gardens and catacombs of Paris through to the Great Gates of Kiev (with a few gnomes and witches in between!). \nThe pieces will be performed by Alison Gill at the piano with narration from Eleanor Mooney to help bring the paintings to life. Bring your sketchpad and pencils (or borrow some of ours) and let your imagination run wild with the music and images. \nAbout Alison\nAlison Gill is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music\, specialising as an accompanist and répétiteur.
