SUMMARY:Gig School
DESCRIPTION:Gig School is an exciting 3 day opportunity for young people aged 12-17 to play\, rehearse and perform in a band setting. \nYoung musicians taking part will learn how to communicate with each other as a band\, learn about live music rehearsal\, set-up and soundcheck\, and performance techniques. They’ll perform in large bands\, as well as getting the chance to form ‘breakaway bands’ during the week. \nThe sessions are led by a team of 4 experienced tutors specialising in guitar\, bass\, keys\, drums and vocals. \nThis activity is open to young people aged 12-17 and we advise that young people playing instruments have some experience (beginner level to advanced). Singers of all abilities are welcome. \nSchedule\n• 10am – 3pm\, Tuesday 14th April\n• 10am – 3pm\, Wednesday 15th April\n• 10am – 6pm\, Thursday 16th April\, with the final showcase performance at 5pm\, open to friends and family of the young musicians. The showcase is expected to last an hour and no booking is required. \nTickets are £75 (+50p booking fee) for the 3 days. \nStaggered payment options are available. \nWe also have free bursaries available for families receiving benefits-related free school meals. Amplify is for you if you’re a young musician looking to try something out on a smaller scale and develop your confidence in a more laid-back setting. \nWe encourage young individuals to play for their family\, friends\, and fellow young musicians. You will also get the opportunity to watch bands and soloists from the Bandjam group based at Middlesbrough Town Hall. \nAll genres of music are welcome; your performance doesn’t have to be a completed song and could be music you’ve been working on recently and would like others to hear. \nOur MC will be present to offer their knowledge of the music industry and manage the performers during the event. \nHow to join as a performer \nPlease fill in this sign up form and we’ll be in touch to confirm your performance slot. \nParents and guardians will need to complete forms on behalf of under 18s. \nYou are required to bring your own instruments and cables for the performance. DESCRIPTION:Join our Summer Band for ages 8-16! \nWe’re inviting young musicians for 3 days of music making at Middlesbrough Town Hall\, as part of this summer’s holiday activities and food programme (HAF). Our band is open to all abilities\, including young people who have never played an instrument\, and all instruments (including non-orchestral). \nAfter you’ve signed up\, we’ll ask what instrument you play and for a description of your ability level so that we can make we have all the right music on the day. Don’t worry if you don’t read music – our tutors will be on hand during the day to support musicians who learn music through alternative methods. If you don’t play an instrument yet\, or can’t bring your instrument with you – you’ll be able to borrow one of ours. \nThroughout the 3 days our band will learn 4 songs\, as well as taking part in games\, crafting and other fun activities. \nOur Tutor Team\nBen – Guitar\, Bass\, Fretted Strings\, Piano\, Drums/Percussion\nSammy – Clarinet\, Saxophone\, other Wind & Strings\nChristina – Vocals\, Keyboards\, Violin & other Strings\nAlthough none of our team play brass instruments we will support brass players the best we can! \nActivities will take place from 10am-2pm on Monday 11th\, Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th August. \nThis event is part of Middlesbrough Council’s Bring It On! holiday programme\, funded by the Department for Education. \nBring It On! is the new name for the holiday activities and food (HAF) programme in Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland. Bring It On! runs during the school holidays to offer free\, fun activities and food to children and young people aged 5 to 16 years. We understand that the school holidays can be a challenging time for parents\, and the HAF can help with this. DESCRIPTION:An introduction to making music with electronics using an apocalyptic musical blackboard! \nDuration: 90 minutes (including a 15 minute break).\nParticipants: Aimed at young adults (11-18) with some experience of music\, no experience of technology necessary. Up to 16 participants (8 per blackboard)\nDelivery Team: Liza Bec (Facilitator)\, Harry Bassett (Facilitator)\, Enzo Samuel (Sound Engineer) \nStructure: \n\nIntroductory performance (5 minutes)\nHow does the blackboard work? Intro to contact mics\, chalk\, blackboard paint and more! (10 minutes)\nSound and visual design using touchpads and MIDI keyboards to control different elements of the blackboard sound – tone\, reverb\, visuals\, pitch (15 minutes)\nCreation of original blackboard pieces\, working with a facilitator\, in 2 small groups. (30 minutes)\nSharing and feedback (15 minutes)\n\nWorkshop Outcomes: \n\n\n\nEnhanced Understanding of Interactive Sound Design\nParticipants will gain hands-on experience with contact mics and blackboard chalk to create dynamic sounds. They will learn how to manipulate various sound elements (such as tone\, pitch\, and reverb) using touchpads and MIDI keyboards.\nIncreased Confidence in Creative Collaboration\nParticipants will collaborate to create original blackboard sound pieces. This will encourage teamwork and inspire creative thinking\, allowing participants to experiment with different techniques and to confidently share unique ideas.\nDevelopment of Technical Skills\nParticipants develop skills in using technology such as touchpads\, MIDI keyboards\, and movement-sensitive wristbands to control sound and visuals.\nIncreased Understanding of the Intersection of Music\, Visual Art\, and Technology\nParticipants will explore how music\, visual art\, and technology can intersect in an interactive\, creative environment. This will deepen their understanding of sound design and inspire new ways of thinking about how art and technology can be integrated.\n\n\n\nAccessibility: The workshop is fully accessible and can be BSL or audio described\, please ask for further details. Real chalk is provided for use during the workshop. SUMMARY:Come and Play: Community Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Come and play with Musinc and The Cobweb Orchestra! \nIn partnership with our friends at The Cobweb Orchestra\, we’re inviting musicians to join our community orchestra for a day of workshops at Middlesbrough Town Hall\, finishing with a sharing performance. \nSign up by 25th February. \nSign up now!\n  \nOur orchestra is open to ages 8+ and all abilities\, including those with SEND and neurodiversities. All instruments\, including non-orchestral\, are welcome – some experience is necessary. \nOn our sign up form\, we’ll ask what instrument you play and for a description of your ability level so that we can make we have all the right music on the day.
