DESCRIPTION:Join Musinc and Aurora Strings for a 50-minute interactive concert\, exploring music from films and video games. \nYou’ll learn more about the individual instruments\, as well as how different musical techniques are used to represent moods and emotions. \nThis concert will support the following areas of the Model Music Curriculum: \n– Musicianship: singing in unison\, performing actions alongside song and moving in time to the beat \n– Listening: a live performance of music from different traditions and composers\, learning about the instruments as well as the stories\, origins\, history and social context of the music \nAurora Strings are the North East’s leading string quartet with years of experience in performing for concerts\, private and corporate events and recording session. They were recently selected by Feva to regularly perform for their Candlelight Concerts in venues such as Durham Cathedral\, Sunderland Minster and The Discovery Museum\, Newcastle where programmes have included Hans Zimmer\, Queen\, Pink Floyd\, Taylor Swift\, ABBA\, Coldplay\, Adele and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. \nThis event is open to school groups and home educating families and has been designed with KS2 children in mind\, although is suitable for all primary aged children. \nThis concert will include live BSL interpretation. \nPlaces are free. DESCRIPTION:Explore drama\, music\, dance and movement in our Performing Arts Holiday Club for ages 6-14! \nOver two days\, we’ll learn to sing and dance to songs from popular films and musicals during the February half term break. \nIn the breaks you’ll have the option to play games as a group\, have a go on the dance mat\, or if you’d prefer a quieter activity\, there’ll be colouring or reading options too. \nOur tutor team:\nJenny – Movement & Dance lead\nJessica – Music lead\nLouise – SEN Music Specialist assistant \nOur team of tutors are experienced in working with young people of all ages and abilities. The team will be assisted by Louise\, who is a music specialist working with young people with SEND. Louise will be on hand to support young people in the group with additional needs – please get in touch to let us know about any specific support your young person requires. Your place includes a packed lunch for those in receipt of benefits related free school meals. \nPlease arrive 10 – 15 minutes early to sign in and get settled. Children can bring their own packed lunch\, or a packed lunch can be provided on the day. \nThis event is part of Middlesbrough Council’s Bring It On! holiday programme\, funded by the Department for Education. \nBring It On! is the new name for the holiday activities and food (HAF) programme in Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland. Bring It On! runs during the school holidays to offer free\, fun activities and food to children and young people aged 5 to 16 years. We understand that the school holidays can be a challenging time for parents\, and the HAF can help with this. HAF programmes aim to support low-income families\, particularly those in receipt of benefits related free school meals. \nTickets \nTicket options for the 2 days will be: free / £10.50 (optional lunch can be purchased £6 per day) \nIf your child is eligible for benefits related free school meals\, please book your free place on the EEQU booking system. DESCRIPTION:Musicians Alison Gill (piano)\, Clare Crinson (flute) and Deb Thorne (cello) perform together as Trio Aquarelle and present a tribute to mark the 200th anniversary of composer Carl Maria von Weber’s death. \nThe trio will also perform toe-tapping Spanish dances from Moritz Moszkowski and the dreamy French Impressionism of Philippe Gaubert’s Trois Aquarelles (Watercolours). \nAbout the musicians:\nThe members of Trio Aquarelle are recognised performers and educators based in the North East of England. \nClare Crinson studied the flute at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and holds an MA in Musicology from Durham University. She enjoys a varied career as a performer and educator. As well as solo and chamber recitals\, she performs regularly as an orchestral flautist with groups such as the International Film Music Orchestra\, the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Mowbray Orchestra. Clare is joint Director of Music at Durham High School as well as teaching flute students of all ages\, including undergraduates at Durham University. \nDeb Thorne plays cello\, having studied music at Clare College\, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music. She was a member of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and now freelances on modern and baroque cello. \nAlison Gill is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music\, specialising as an accompanist and répétiteur. She collaborates regularly with the Chorus of the Royal Northern Sinfonia\, the Jervaulx Singers and as an accompanist in residence for Leeds Conservatoire\, Durham University and for the BBC Proms held at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music. As a soloist and accompanist\, Alison has also performed at venues from the Wigmore Hall to the Palau de La Musica in Barcelona and Vienna’s Musikverein. \nAbout Classical Café  \nClassical Café is a series of Sunday afternoon performances at Middlesbrough Town Hall. We’re hosting a careers panel at Middlesbrough Town Hall for secondary students. \nWe want young people from the Tees Valley to aspire to do amazing things! There are so many career paths available in music and we want to highlight what young people can achieve in our area. \nOur panel of local professionals will reflect the huge variety of musical professions available\, inspiring young people to think more about careers around their strengths and interests and pursue a career in music. \nWe’ll also have a number of stalls from post-16 education providers for young people to discuss music education in college and beyond. \nThe event will be hosted by musician and BBC Introducing presenter Shakk. \n \nShakk – Musician and BBC Introducing NE Presenter \nBursting onto the scene in September 2018\, Shakk went on to sell out his e.p launch night in his hometown\, perform at the O2 Academy\, BBC Music The Biggest Weekend Fringe\, Twisterella & Lindisfarne festival\, and much more whilst gaining support from the likes of Bobby Friction from BBC Asian Network\, BBC Radio Introducing and becoming Ride Music Artist of the Year along the way. DESCRIPTION:Join our Summer Band for ages 8-16! \nWe’re inviting young musicians for 3 days of music making at Middlesbrough Town Hall\, as part of this summer’s holiday activities and food programme (HAF). Our band is open to all abilities\, including young people who have never played an instrument\, and all instruments (including non-orchestral). \nAfter you’ve signed up\, we’ll ask what instrument you play and for a description of your ability level so that we can make we have all the right music on the day. Don’t worry if you don’t read music – our tutors will be on hand during the day to support musicians who learn music through alternative methods. Intro to contact mics\, chalk\, blackboard paint and more! (10 minutes)\nSound and visual design using touchpads and MIDI keyboards to control different elements of the blackboard sound – tone\, reverb\, visuals\, pitch (15 minutes)\nCreation of original blackboard pieces\, working with a facilitator\, in 2 small groups. (30 minutes)\nSharing and feedback (15 minutes)\n\nWorkshop Outcomes: \n\n\n\nEnhanced Understanding of Interactive Sound Design\nParticipants will gain hands-on experience with contact mics and blackboard chalk to create dynamic sounds. DESCRIPTION:What happens when you plug a blackboard into a computer and use it to make music? Come and experience Liza Bec’s original apocalyptic coming of age tale featuring a magical musical blackboard. \n\nThe End Times is a novel and an album in one\, a theatrical soundscape with one foot in the supernatural and one foot in science. \nLiza will use their self built cyborg recorder\, the roborecorder\, featured in the Museum of Science and Industry\, to control the sounds made by the blackboard from afar. DESCRIPTION:Can a musical blackboard prevent the Apocalypse? \nCome and find out in Liza Bec’s original coming-of-age tale featuring the modular synth of chalk. Listen as haunting vocals\, surreal spoken word and soaring winds swoop over driving synths and polyrhythms. Watch as chalk\, tape and water are transformed into a theatrical soundscape with one foot in the supernatural and one foot in science. \nLiza will use their self-built cyborg recorder\, the roborecorder\, as featured in New Scientist\, Insider and the Museum of Science and Industry\, to control the sounds made by the blackboard from afar. \nThis immersive hour-long live theatrical performance includes music from ‘The End Times’ album\, recorded live at Real World Studios. Featuring choreography by Becky Namgauds and narrated by David Ryder Prangley (Rachel Stamp\, Adam Ant) \nLiza is an innovative contemporary performer\, composer\, producer and multimedia narrative author. They built the roborecorder based on their lived experience of music-triggered epilepsy. They were awarded the Fusion Fund by Help Musicians UK to create audiovisual EP INNERVATE. In 2024 they held residencies at Britten Pears Arts and Paraorchestra. They produce serial fiction podcast Spiral Dial. \nAbout Classical Café\nClassical Café is a series of Sunday afternoon performances at Middlesbrough Town Hall. DESCRIPTION:For April’s Classical Café\, join Sophie Iliaifar\, accompanied by Alison Gill\, for an afternoon of classical singing. Performing a range of repertoire from Purcell to Brahms\, Poulenc to Britten\, with a few Cole Porter classics in between\, your classical music palette will be dancing with delight. \nSophie Iliaifar (she/her) – Mezzo-Soprano\nSophie Iliaifar is an American Iranian mezzo-soprano\, who is originally from Saltburn\, England. She is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in Vocal Studies and Opera. She performed in three opera choruses at the RNCM\, Le Nozze Di Figaro (2022)\, Die Fledermaus (2022)\, The Snow Maiden (2023)\, and she was in the street chorus of the performance of Bernstein’s Mass at the Bridgewater Hall. She also recorded the Queen’s Coronation Anthems in Ely Cathedral (2018)\, and Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius in Fairfield Halls (2023) both alongside the Gabrieli Consort and Paul McCreesh. She was recently awarded third prize in the Young Musician of the Year Competition in Huddersfield\, and first prize in the international division of the George Shirley Competition\, which is based in Michigan\, USA. Sophie is currently the manager of the Somnium Chamber Choir and is the Student Union President at the RNCM. \nAlison Gill (she/her) – Piano\nAlison Gill is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music\, specialising as an accompanist and répétiteur. Now based in North Yorkshire\, Alison is highly sought after as an accompanist across the region\, collaborating regularly with the Chorus of the Royal Northern Sinfonia\, the Jervaulx Singers and as an accompanist for Leeds Conservatoire\, Durham University\, the Berkshire Choral International and for the BBC Proms held at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music. As a soloist and accompanist Alison has also performed at venues from the Wigmore Hall to the Palau de La Musica in Barcelona and Vienna’s Musikverein. \nAbout Classical Café\nClassical Café is a series of Sunday afternoon performances at Middlesbrough Town Hall. DESCRIPTION:Who’s on stage \nRNS Moves\, an inclusive ensemble made up of disabled musicians and non-disabled members of Royal Northern Sinfonia\, with special guest Rapasa Nyatrapasa Otieno. Rapasa is a singer\, songwriter\, and virtuoso of the nyatiti\, a traditional eight-string lyre from the shores of Nam Lolwe (Kenya’s Lake Victoria). \nWhat they’re playing \nA fusion of sounds and cultures from across the world. Rapasa Nyatrapasa Otieno introduces us to the nyatti and his compositions\, deeply rooted in traditional storytelling from the Lüo community in western Kenya. SUMMARY:Come and Play: Community Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Come and play with Musinc and The Cobweb Orchestra! \nIn partnership with our friends at The Cobweb Orchestra\, we’re inviting musicians to join our community orchestra for a day of workshops at Middlesbrough Town Hall\, finishing with a sharing performance. \nSign up by 25th February. \nSign up now!\n  \nOur orchestra is open to ages 8+ and all abilities\, including those with SEND and neurodiversities. All instruments\, including non-orchestral\, are welcome – some experience is necessary. \nOn our sign up form\, we’ll ask what instrument you play and for a description of your ability level so that we can make we have all the right music on the day.
