DESCRIPTION:Amplify is a free performance opportunity for young people aged 12-18 in a friendly and supportive event space. \nPlaying in front of an audience can be intimidating. Amplify is for you if you’re a young musician looking to try something out on a smaller scale and develop your confidence in a more laid-back setting. \nWe encourage both soloists and groups to play for their family\, friends\, and fellow young musicians. You will also get the opportunity to watch performers from the Bandjam group based at Middlesbrough Town Hall. \nAll genres of music are welcome; your performance doesn’t have to be a completed song and could be music you’ve been working on recently and would like others to hear. \nOur MC will be present to share their music expertise and manage the performers during the event. \nHow to join as a performer \nPlease fill in this sign up form and we’ll be in touch to confirm your performance slot. \nParents and guardians will need to complete forms on behalf of under 18s. \nYou are required to bring your own instruments and cables for the performance. We will provide an electronic drum kit\, keyboard\, PA\, mics and other equipment. \nHow to watch the event \nAmplify is free to watch. The event will be supervised by staff.

DESCRIPTION:Musicians Alison Gill (piano)\, Clare Crinson (flute) and Deb Thorne (cello) perform together as Trio Aquarelle and present a tribute to mark the 200th anniversary of composer Carl Maria von Weber’s death. \nThe trio will also perform toe-tapping Spanish dances from Moritz Moszkowski and the dreamy French Impressionism of Philippe Gaubert’s Trois Aquarelles (Watercolours). \nAbout the musicians:\nThe members of Trio Aquarelle are recognised performers and educators based in the North East of England. \nClare Crinson studied the flute at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and holds an MA in Musicology from Durham University. She enjoys a varied career as a performer and educator. As well as solo and chamber recitals\, she performs regularly as an orchestral flautist with groups such as the International Film Music Orchestra\, the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Mowbray Orchestra. Clare is joint Director of Music at Durham High School as well as teaching flute students of all ages\, including undergraduates at Durham University. \nDeb Thorne plays cello\, having studied music at Clare College\, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music. She was a member of the Royal Northern Sinfonia and now freelances on modern and baroque cello. \nAlison Gill is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music\, specialising as an accompanist and répétiteur. She collaborates regularly with the Chorus of the Royal Northern Sinfonia\, the Jervaulx Singers and as an accompanist in residence for Leeds Conservatoire\, Durham University and for the BBC Proms held at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music. As a soloist and accompanist\, Alison has also performed at venues from the Wigmore Hall to the Palau de La Musica in Barcelona and Vienna’s Musikverein. \nAbout Classical Café  \nClassical Café is a series of Sunday afternoon performances at Middlesbrough Town Hall. DESCRIPTION:Explore drama\, music\, dance and movement in our Performing Arts Holiday Club for ages 6-14! \nOver two days\, we’ll learn to sing and dance to songs from popular films and musicals during the February half term break. \nIn the breaks you’ll have the option to play games as a group\, have a go on the dance mat\, or if you’d prefer a quieter activity\, there’ll be colouring or reading options too. \nOur tutor team:\nJenny – Movement & Dance lead\nJessica – Music lead\nLouise – SEN Music Specialist assistant \nOur team of tutors are experienced in working with young people of all ages and abilities. The team will be assisted by Louise\, who is a music specialist working with young people with SEND. Louise will be on hand to support young people in the group with additional needs – please get in touch to let us know about any specific support your young person requires. Your place includes a packed lunch for those in receipt of benefits related free school meals. \nPlease arrive 10 – 15 minutes early to sign in and get settled. Children can bring their own packed lunch\, or a packed lunch can be provided on the day. \nThis event is part of Middlesbrough Council’s Bring It On! holiday programme\, funded by the Department for Education. \nBring It On! is the new name for the holiday activities and food (HAF) programme in Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland. Bring It On! runs during the school holidays to offer free\, fun activities and food to children and young people aged 5 to 16 years. We understand that the school holidays can be a challenging time for parents\, and the HAF can help with this. HAF programmes aim to support low-income families\, particularly those in receipt of benefits related free school meals. \nTickets \nTicket options for the 2 days will be: free / £10.50 (optional lunch can be purchased £6 per day) \nIf your child is eligible for benefits related free school meals\, please book your free place on the EEQU booking system. Booking goes live on Monday 9th February at 12 noon. \nIf your child is not eligible for benefits related free school meals\, please book your paid place through the Town Hall website.

SUMMARY:Classical Café for Primary Schools: Aurora Strings
DESCRIPTION:Join Musinc and Aurora Strings for a 50-minute interactive concert\, exploring music from films and video games. \nYou’ll learn more about the individual instruments\, as well as how different musical techniques are used to represent moods and emotions. \nThis concert will support the following areas of the Model Music Curriculum: \n– Musicianship: singing in unison\, performing actions alongside song and moving in time to the beat \n– Listening: a live performance of music from different traditions and composers\, learning about the instruments as well as the stories\, origins\, history and social context of the music \nAurora Strings are the North East’s leading string quartet with years of experience in performing for concerts\, private and corporate events and recording session. They were recently selected by Feva to regularly perform for their Candlelight Concerts in venues such as Durham Cathedral\, Sunderland Minster and The Discovery Museum\, Newcastle where programmes have included Hans Zimmer\, Queen\, Pink Floyd\, Taylor Swift\, ABBA\, Coldplay\, Adele and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. \nThis event is open to school groups and home educating families and has been designed with KS2 children in mind\, although is suitable for all primary aged children. \nThis concert will include live BSL interpretation. \nPlaces are free. DESCRIPTION:Gig School is an exciting 3 day opportunity for young people aged 12-17 to play\, rehearse and perform in a band setting. \nYoung musicians taking part will learn how to communicate with each other as a band\, learn about live music rehearsal\, set-up and soundcheck\, and performance techniques. They’ll perform in large bands\, as well as getting the chance to form ‘breakaway bands’ during the week. \nThe sessions are led by a team of 4 experienced tutors specialising in guitar\, bass\, keys\, drums and vocals. \nThis activity is open to young people aged 12-17 and we advise that young people playing instruments have some experience (beginner level to advanced). Singers of all abilities are welcome. \nSchedule\n• 10am – 3pm\, Tuesday 14th April\n• 10am – 3pm\, Wednesday 15th April\n• 10am – 6pm\, Thursday 16th April\, with the final showcase performance at 5pm\, open to friends and family of the young musicians. The showcase is expected to last an hour and no booking is required. \nTickets are £75 (+50p booking fee) for the 3 days. \nStaggered payment options are available. \nWe also have free bursaries available for families receiving benefits-related free school meals. DESCRIPTION:Middlesbrough Open Orchestra and Thursday Orchestra present ‘Past\, Present and Future’. \nExpect original compositions and group favourites\, new faces and old friends\, and a night of brilliant music. \nWe’re delighted to have Middlesbrough Open Orchestra back performing on home soil and are excited to welcome Thursday Orchestra for their debut performance. \nMiddlesbrough Open Orchestra is a collaboration between Musinc\, Beverley School\, Priory Woods School and Tees Valley Music Hub. Students from Beverley School and Priory Woods School have weekly music sessions in school as well as coming together regularly to play as an orchestra at Middlesbrough Town Hall. \nThe young people play music from a wide range of genres\, including classical\, contemporary and pop. They particularly enjoy creating soundscapes and original compositions alongside their orchestra leader\, Ben Hopkinson. \nSince its inception\, Middlesbrough Open Orchestra has been gaining both regional and national recognition for championing inclusive music making. The orchestra has performed at events such as Music For Youth’s Together For Music Festival 2025 in Birmingham\, Music & Drama Education Expo 2023 in London\, Music Mark National Conference 2022 and North East Culture Awards 2022 in Newcastle\, and Middlesbrough Council Civic Awards 2021. \nThursday Orchestra is a new ensemble for Disabled and Neurodivergent young musicians aged 16-25. The orchestra is a place for experienced and aspiring young musicians to come together and make music! The group meets weekly at Middlesbrough Town Hall\, and all musical instruments and abilities are welcome.

With roots in Western classical and contemporary music\, Akash brings a fresh\, innovative voice to the instrument\, blending tradition with modern musical sensibilities. \nA dedicated disciple of renowned sitarist Roopa Panesar\, Akash has also been guided by esteemed musicians including Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE\, Ustad Harjinderpal Singh (disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma)\, and Ustad Irshad Khan (disciple and son of Ustad Imrat Khan\, and nephew of Ustad Vilayat Khan). \nHis collaborative work spans a wide creative spectrum\, featuring projects with Zak Starkey (The Who\, Oasis)\, Mayur Navekar (Bandish Projekt)\, and Michael Tedstone (ManikeMusic)\, among others. Akash has performed at major venues and festivals—including Glastonbury—and is currently working on his highly anticipated debut album. \nJanan Sathiendran is a dynamic tabla player whose artistry is shaped by deep training in both Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. The show will be narrated by Eleanor Mooney. \nThis concert will support the following areas of the Model Music Curriculum: \n– Musicianship: singing in unison\, performing actions alongside song and moving in time to the beat \n– Listening: a live performance of music from different traditions and composers\, learning about the instruments as well as the stories\, origins\, history and social context of the music \nThis concert will include live BSL interpretation. \nThis event is open to school groups and home educating families and has been designed with KS2 children in mind\, although is suitable for all primary aged children. \nPlaces are free.
