SUMMARY:Classical Café for Primary Schools: Aurora Strings
DESCRIPTION:Join Musinc and Aurora Strings for a 50-minute interactive concert\, exploring music from films and video games. \nYou’ll learn more about the individual instruments\, as well as how different musical techniques are used to represent moods and emotions. \nThis concert will support the following areas of the Model Music Curriculum: \n– Musicianship: singing in unison\, performing actions alongside song and moving in time to the beat \n– Listening: a live performance of music from different traditions and composers\, learning about the instruments as well as the stories\, origins\, history and social context of the music \nAurora Strings are the North East’s leading string quartet with years of experience in performing for concerts\, private and corporate events and recording session. They were recently selected by Feva to regularly perform for their Candlelight Concerts in venues such as Durham Cathedral\, Sunderland Minster and The Discovery Museum\, Newcastle where programmes have included Hans Zimmer\, Queen\, Pink Floyd\, Taylor Swift\, ABBA\, Coldplay\, Adele and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. \nThis event is open to school groups and home educating families and has been designed with KS2 children in mind\, although is suitable for all primary aged children. \nThis concert will include live BSL interpretation. \nPlaces are free. You will also get the opportunity to watch bands and soloists from the Bandjam group based at Middlesbrough Town Hall. \nAll genres of music are welcome; your performance doesn’t have to be a completed song and could be music you’ve been working on recently and would like others to hear. \nOur MC will be present to offer their knowledge of the music industry and manage the performers during the event. \nHow to join as a performer \nPlease fill in this sign up form and we’ll be in touch to confirm your performance slot. \nParents and guardians will need to complete forms on behalf of under 18s. \nYou are required to bring your own instruments and cables for the performance. SUMMARY:Gig School
DESCRIPTION:Gig School is an exciting 3 day opportunity for young people aged 12-17 to play\, rehearse and perform in a band setting. \nYoung musicians taking part will learn how to communicate with each other as a band\, learn about live music rehearsal\, set-up and soundcheck\, and performance techniques. They’ll perform in large bands\, as well as getting the chance to form ‘breakaway bands’ during the week. \nThe sessions are led by a team of 4 experienced tutors specialising in guitar\, bass\, keys\, drums and vocals. \nThis activity is open to young people aged 12-17 and we advise that young people playing instruments have some experience (beginner level to advanced). Singers of all abilities are welcome. \nSchedule\n• 10am – 3pm\, Tuesday 14th April\n• 10am – 3pm\, Wednesday 15th April\n• 10am – 6pm\, Thursday 16th April\, with the final showcase performance at 5pm\, open to friends and family of the young musicians. The showcase is expected to last an hour and no booking is required. \nTickets are £75 (+50p booking fee) for the 3 days. \nStaggered payment options are available. \nWe also have free bursaries available for families receiving benefits-related free school meals. DESCRIPTION:Middlesbrough Open Orchestra and Thursday Orchestra present ‘Past\, Present and Future’. \nExpect original compositions and group favourites\, new faces and old friends\, and a night of brilliant music. \nWe’re delighted to have Middlesbrough Open Orchestra back performing on home soil and are excited to welcome Thursday Orchestra for their debut performance. \nMiddlesbrough Open Orchestra is a collaboration between Musinc\, Beverley School\, Priory Woods School and Tees Valley Music Hub. Students from Beverley School and Priory Woods School have weekly music sessions in school as well as coming together regularly to play as an orchestra at Middlesbrough Town Hall. \nThe young people play music from a wide range of genres\, including classical\, contemporary and pop. They particularly enjoy creating soundscapes and original compositions alongside their orchestra leader\, Ben Hopkinson. \nSince its inception\, Middlesbrough Open Orchestra has been gaining both regional and national recognition for championing inclusive music making. The orchestra has performed at events such as Music For Youth’s Together For Music Festival 2025 in Birmingham\, Music & Drama Education Expo 2023 in London\, Music Mark National Conference 2022 and North East Culture Awards 2022 in Newcastle\, and Middlesbrough Council Civic Awards 2021. \nThursday Orchestra is a new ensemble for Disabled and Neurodivergent young musicians aged 16-25. The orchestra is a place for experienced and aspiring young musicians to come together and make music! The group meets weekly at Middlesbrough Town Hall\, and all musical instruments and abilities are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in the rich landscapes of Indian classical music brought to you by the North East’s award-winning arts organisation GemArts. \nAkash Parekar began his journey with the sitar at the age of 18 in 2011\, and has since emerged as one of the most exciting talents among a new generation of British-born sitar players. With roots in Western classical and contemporary music\, Akash brings a fresh\, innovative voice to the instrument\, blending tradition with modern musical sensibilities. \nA dedicated disciple of renowned sitarist Roopa Panesar\, Akash has also been guided by esteemed musicians including Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE\, Ustad Harjinderpal Singh (disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma)\, and Ustad Irshad Khan (disciple and son of Ustad Imrat Khan\, and nephew of Ustad Vilayat Khan). \nHis collaborative work spans a wide creative spectrum\, featuring projects with Zak Starkey (The Who\, Oasis)\, Mayur Navekar (Bandish Projekt)\, and Michael Tedstone (ManikeMusic)\, among others. Akash has performed at major venues and festivals—including Glastonbury—and is currently working on his highly anticipated debut album. \nJanan Sathiendran is a dynamic tabla player whose artistry is shaped by deep training in both Hindustani and Carnatic traditions. A student of Shri Sukhdeep Singh Dhanjal and Pandit Yogesh Samsi\, Janan grew up in London in a home enriched by diverse musical influences\, developing a refined instinct and adaptable style from a young age. \nHis versatility as a performer enables him to move effortlessly across genres: from accompanying Indian classical music and dance to performing Qawwali\, collaborating with Western classical ensembles\, and working in contemporary and urban music. This breadth has taken him around the world\, sharing stages with celebrated artists including Abi Sampa\, Nitin Sawhney\, and A.R.
