Amplifying young voices in Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough-based music organisation Musinc is putting Teesside’s young voices at the forefront through Amplify, a series of events for young people between 14 and 25.

Young Producers

Running at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Monday evenings, Young Producers is one of Musinc’s weekly groups that gives young people aged 16-25 the chance to organise their own live or virtual music event such as a performance, festival or podcast. Recently the Young Producers have planned their own mini music festival which will take over the Town Hall for a day.

Rebecca Johnson, Musical Inclusion Manager at Musinc says:

“We’ve always strived to put young people at the centre of our organisation and this is the next step we’re taking in ensuring that we’re listening to young people’s voices and responding to their needs and musical interests.”

Town Hall Takeover

The Town Hall Takeover taking place on Sunday 30th October, 3pm-9pm invites young people to enjoy a line-up of local young musicians, including solo artists, bands and DJs. The free event, open to ages 13-19, will also include food, dancing, a chill-out zone and information stalls.

Free Space

The latest Amplify initiative is a free music social space for ages 14-18 in partnership with Youth Focus North East. At Free Space, young people can attend a gig-style environment, watch performances by professional local musicians and speak to them for advice. The space has been designed to share interests, thoughts and ideas on music and culture and also offers opportunities for open mic slots.

Free Space starts at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Tuesdays, 6-8pm on 29th November, 14th February and 28th March and is soon to be announced in other venues across Middlesbrough.
