Naz is our Young Musician of the Month!
Naz takes part in our Middlesbrough Open Orchestra each week. He was recently awarded the Robert Lewin award from Awards for Young Musicians, a charity who support talented young people from across the UK fulfil their musical potential.
Naz’s music teacher at Priory Woods School in Middlesbrough, Adam Featherstone commented on the award:
“Naz was awarded this after sending [Awards For Young Musicians] evidence of his fantastic playing. He has been given a grant for £500 for which he hopes to be able to buy a new piano… Both myself and everyone at Priory Woods are very proud of him and it is fantastic to see him get more recognition for his fantastic talents.”
Here is a little Q&A we did with Naz about his award.
Naz, you’ve just won a bursary haven’t you? What are your plans?
I’m thinking of buying a piano for me. A white one, to go in my house… then I can play better at home.
What do your family think?
My mam was shocked when I told her I’d won [the award]. I was shocked too, I’m still shocked.
Do your family listen to you play?
Yes most of the time.
And what do they think of your playing?
They think I’m amazing
So it’s going to be really nice for you to have a piano at home and play for them all the time?
Well not all the time, cos I get told to turn it down!
Do you have any new pieces of music that you’re writing at the moment?
Not yet. When I get my piano I’ll be making new songs.
As usual, we’re looking forward to hearing brand new music from Naz – we’re sure there’s plenty more to come!
