Thursday Orchestra

A young person playing a cello in an orchestra

An ensemble for ages 16-25

Thursdays, 4.30pm – 6pm, Middlesbrough Town Hall

Free to join

Are you aged 16-25? Do you identify as Disabled or Neurodivergent? Do you play a musical instrument?

Our new ensemble is a place for experienced and aspiring young musicians to come together and make music! All musical instruments and abilities are welcome. You will need to bring your own instrument with you (unless you play piano or drums).

The group runs on Thursdays during term time, 4.30pm – 6pm at Middlesbrough Town Hall. Sessions are free to attend.

The sessions will be led by music leader, Ben Hopkinson, and there will be an additional member of staff to offer pastoral support. Our team are experienced in working with young people with SEND, poor mental health and families facing challenging circumstances, and tailor their work to meet the needs of the people in the room.

If you have any queries about your own or your young person’s ability to access an activity or event, please get in touch to discuss your needs. If you require 1:1 or specialist support, you will need to arrange for someone to attend the sessions with you.

N.B. The current members are choosing a new name for the ensemble, so this may change shortly.

Booking as a new participant?

We require all new participants to contact us on musinc@middlesbrough.gov.uk prior to attending the group.

Financial support is available through bursaries for participants facing barriers (see below)

Bursaries

We receive funding from Arts Council England and Youth Music, which means that we are able to offer support with transport costs for our activities for those where finance is a barrier.

To apply for financial support, upon enquiry, we will ask you to complete a form and submit this along with a registration form, including your reason for requesting a bursary.

There is a limit to the amount of bursaries we are able to offer, therefore a member of the Musinc team will contact you to confirm whether or not we can offer you support.
