Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee in Middlesbrough

We celebrated the 2022 Platinum Jubilee with workshops and performances from a full orchestra and choir.

In May, Musinc ran a ‘Sing and Play Coronation Anthems’ workshop day for members of the public to get involved in the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

Musinc recruited a professional core choir and orchestra for the day and invited local musicians to learn and play ‘Zadok the Priest’ and other music from coronations during the workshop.

‘Zadok the Priest’ was written by George Frederick Handel for the coronation of King George II in 1727. This piece has been played at the coronation of every British monarch ever since.

The musicians were then invited to perform the finished product of the workshop day as part of Jubilee weekend celebrations in Middlesbrough on Thursday 2nd June.

During the day, musicians performed in Middlesbrough Town Centre and Orange Pip Market in Centre Square, and members of the choir also took part in the evening’s ‘Lighting of the Beacon’ ceremony in front of Dorman Museum’s Cenotaph.
