Young people and families celebrate Make Music Day in Middlesbrough
Musinc enjoyed organising a day of musical activities and events for international Make Music Day.
On Tuesday 21st June, Musinc and Middlesbrough Town Hall celebrated Make Music Day 2022, an international initiative to make live music-making accessible to all.
250 young people from 6 local schools joined us on Centre Square to take part in drumming and singing workshops led by Apollo Creative Studios. Over lunch, the young people were treated to a concert by the wonderful Back Chat Brass.
“Our students and staff loved this event. It was so inclusive and Back Chat Brass were fantastic”
– Teacher, Priory Woods
In the afternoon, Back Chat Brass headed to Pallister Park for a short pop up concert in the community.
The day also included a Careers Panel at Middlesbrough Town Hall for secondary and sixth form students. Panellists and speakers included staff across Middlesbrough Council: Musinc’s Musical Inclusion Manager Rebecca Johnson, Technical Manager Chris Train, Festival and Events Officer Adam Henry, Musician and Photographer Kev Howard and Deputy Head of Culture Leanne Littlewood.
To end the day, there was a special concert at the town hall organised by Newcastle-based organisation Skimstone Arts. Skimstone’s young adult band Reality Boots performed and were supported by young people who attend Musinc’s Bandjam group.
It was brilliant to see so many young people, schools and families enjoying making music together. We’re looking forward to next year’s celebrations already!
