‘A chance to do what I love to do’ – Finn’s work experience

Finn is a student from Middlesbrough College who has completed a work experience placement with Musinc.
He has detailed his positive experience on getting involved as a participant at Gig School and Young Producers, and how his placement led to him applying and being selected as a GFEL Access Steward at Glastonbury – congratulations Finn!

Finn’s placement
I have learnt so much from being with Musinc for my college placements. I have a better understanding of how music works and the positive and beneficial effects it can have on others from one of my placements. How music can calm and soothe people with disabilities and watching them enjoy the experience and being a part of this made me realise how important music is and how important the work of Musinc is in reaching out to marginalised groups. It was a privilege to be part of this. I have had the opportunity to link with Ben and Sammy from Musinc and also other young musicians. I have had the opportunity to work in Middlesbrough Town Hall in the Crypt and support my local area.
My college placements with Musinc led me to apply to Attitude is Everything with help from Kelly at Middlesbrough College. I have attended a Charter in London and have been selected to be a GFEL Access Steward at Glastonbury, all through the sharing of information and opportunities.
Musinc provided me with the opportunity to join in with Gig School in the summer. I had a 10 week holiday with very little to do so this 3 day experience was amazing, needed, and I felt like I belonged. I met with other young musicians and we all shared a common goal of practising and performing together. Ben and Sammy supported us throughout, and this led to me joining Young Producers where I met with other young people, musicians and people of music with other skills and together we planned, organised Battle of the Bands. 6 local bands played in March, we had an audience of 167 people – my role was a sound technician, I loved it. At the end, I announced the winners, this is something I would never have had the confidence to do. Musinc enabled this for me, they gave me a chance to do what I love to do – I also did it for them, I wouldn’t let them down. I would willingly like to volunteer with Musinc, perhaps this summer. Musinc are very inclusive – I am neurodiverse – they see me as a young musician, they include me, listen to me, they keep me informed. I am forever grateful to them.
