Amplify is a free performance opportunity for young people aged 12-18 in a friendly and supportive event space.

Playing in front of an audience can be intimidating. Amplify is for you if you’re a young musician looking to try something out on a smaller scale and develop your confidence in a more laid-back setting.

We encourage young individuals to play for their family, friends, and fellow young musicians. You will also get the opportunity to watch bands and soloists from the Bandjam group based at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

All genres of music are welcome; your performance doesn’t have to be a completed song and could be music you’ve been working on recently and would like others to hear.

Our MC will be present to offer their knowledge of the music industry and manage the performers during the event.

How to join as a performer

Please fill in this sign up form and we’ll be in touch to confirm your performance slot.

Parents and guardians will need to complete forms on behalf of under 18s.

You are required to bring your own instruments and cables for the performance. We will provide an electronic drum kit, keyboard, PA, mics and other equipment.

How to watch the event

Amplify is free to watch. The event will be supervised by staff.

Age appropriateness:

We provide this opportunity for performers aged 12-18 years. Watching the event is open to audiences of all ages – please be aware that some live performances may be loud or unsuitable for younger children.

Pushchairs and prams:

Due to Middlesbrough Town Hall’s fire regulation policies pushchairs, prams and car seats must be left in our dedicated ‘buggy parking’ zone on the ground floor carriageway and cannot be taken into any of the event spaces. Unfortunately, we cannot take responsibility for items left there, but we do our best to keep an eye on them.

Relaxed setting:

Our events take place in a relaxed environment, and have the following features:

  • There’ll be lower volume levels throughout the event
  • Our spaces have consistent lighting, with low level auditorium lights on throughout
  • Our musicians and facilitators have relaxed attitude to noise and moving around the space
  • A quiet, chill out space will be available should you need a break
  • Our younger visitors can find a busy venue and loud musical activities quite overwhelming. A limited number of ear defenders are available from the Box Office – by the main entrance on Albert Street – see us as early as possible to secure a pair.
  • Free drinking water will be available
